LYMPHOMA CANCER

The lymphatic system of a person comprises of the lymph, lymph nodes, lymph vessels, spleen, bone marrow and liver. The fluid lymph flows in the lymphatic system and moves through your body via lymph vessels. Produced by spleen and the bone marrow, the fluid contains lymphocytes having the ability to fight pathogens. Blood is filtered by these cells and the microorganisms are collected inside the lymph nodes. During infections, you can experience a palpable node in your breasts, neck, groin, or under your arms.

Lymphoma cancer is basically caused due to lymphocytes, especially the T-lymphocytes and the B-lymphocytes. There is presence of Reed-Sternberg cells in case of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is a kind of lymphoma cancer. On the contrary, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is the lymphoma without the presence of Reed- Sternberg cells. There is an increase of malignant cells in size and number, resulting in uncontrolled number of cells inside the lymph node.

The symptoms of this cancer may be unexplained weight loss, night sweats, and unexplained fever. In order to track the severity of the condition, CT-Scan, X-Ray, blood tests and MRI are done. Treatments might include a combination of radiation as well as chemotherapy. Radiation therapy is usually carried out during the early stages, but if the cancer cells are spotted in other parts of the body as well, then chemotherapy is put to use.
