PANCREATIC CANCER
One of the most important organs of the
human body, pancreas, produces insulin in order to regulate sugar levels inside
the body. Pancreatic juices are also produced by the same for digestion of
food. Pancreatic cancer is a condition in which cells start growing abnormally
(malignant cells) in the pancreas. This kind of cancer can be life threatening
too.
It generally affects older people (above
60). Due to alcohol consumption in large amounts, chronic pancreatitis can
occur which can also be seen as the precursor of pancreatic cancer. There are
no such clear symptoms of this disease that could help in early detection of
the same. Loss of appetite, tiredness or pain in the abdomen can be some of the
indications, but these can be caused by various other factors as well, that it
might not even strike that this could be a symptom of an impending danger.
Jaundice too can be one of the other symptoms. The occurrence of pancreatic
cancer is not generally related to family history.
However, if you really want to make
yourself sure, it’s better that you go and consult your doctor. You may be
advised to go for a urine and blood test in the beginning. If there are any
possible indications of pancreatic cancer, you may be advised to proceed with
some other series of tests to make sure you have been affected by this disease.
Your survival chances depends entirely on
the fact how early you are able to detect the cancer. The treatment further
depends upon the stage and size of the cancer along with your general health.
Surgery is the best treatment for the eradication of cancer. Radiotherapy and
chemotherapy might as well be put to use in case need arises. Looking for an
