PANCREATIC CANCER

When cancer cells starts forming in the tissues of your pancreas, it is known as pancreatic cancer. Arising from the pancreatic duct cells, this carcinoma is generally an adenocarcinoma. Damage to the genes causes pancreatic cancer, but the reason for this damage is still not exactly clear. However, it might be linked with exposure to carcinogens such as; food high in protein and fat, cigarettes and food additives.
It is even believed that people who eat less fruits and vegetables have a more risk of developing this condition. Obesity too sometimes can act as a catalyst. Exposure to radiation and certain chemicals such as nickel, pesticides, iron and chromium can also be contributing factors to the development of pancreatic cancer.
Some common symptoms of this condition include low back/abdominal pain, weight loss, diarrhoea and jaundice. Other general effects are depression, anxiety, skin lesions and fever. It is not that easy to diagnose pancreatic cancer. This is the reason why it seldom gets detected in its early stages.
The location and stage of the cancer decides what treatment plan has to be followed. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapies either individually or combinedly are suggested by the doctor after proper diagnosis.
